Leadership and Membership Development

Student Teacher Panel
Our chapter assembled a panel of current student teachers from each department within the College of Education. Some of the departments included were Early Childhood, Physical Education, Special Education, Music Education, and Secondary Education. These panelists shared with our members as well as other College of Education students insight into their student teaching experiences.
Mentor Night
This year, our members had the opportunity to participate in a Mentor Night. Members were assigned a position of Mentor (upperclassmen) and Mentee (freshmen and transfer students). Mentors and Mentees got together on a couple different occasions to discuss topics such as scheduling, obtaining clearances, and classes within our College of Education.

Region Meeting
In the Fall semester, Slippery Rock decided to hold the very first interregional conference in the West. This conference was attended by S-PSEA members from 7 different universities and hosted by our chapter. During the conference, members had the chance to listen to a wide variety of break sessions. Some of the topics for these sessions were, Special Education Law, Student Teaching Tips and Tricks, Classroom Management, and Autism 411.
Speakers
Dr. Chris Clayton
Our organization and members were fortunate enough to have Dr. Chris Clayton present to us on two different occasions. In the fall, Dr. Clayton spoke to our club about classroom management and important techniques to implement in our future classrooms. During the spring, he highlighted the connection between poverty and classroom achievement during his presentation.
Dr. Jason Hilton
Dr. Hilton provided our club with an interactive discussion about what to expect during our student teaching and field experiences. He informed us of many different tips and tricks to stand out as future educators.

Clubs and Organizations Fair

At the beginning of each semester, our chapter participates in our campus wide clubs and organizations fair. This event is designed to promote this professional organization to potential new members and provide them with vital information. Our Executive Board displays many different artifacts that highlight what we are all about to entice new members.
Social Media
Social media is very prevalent in today's society and a large part of our communication network. We utilize Twitter and Facebook to help pass along important information efficiently as well as pictures that showcase our involvement on campus and the surrounding communities.
Member Communication
In addition to using social media, our chapter also relies on other forms of communication. We send bi-weekly emails with attached meeting agendas to all of our members. We also design and display a bulletin board in our education building that emphasizes many an array aspects of our organization. Finally, we maintain a D2L shell that contains important documents for our members.
